THE FIELD, 2026

The Field is an augmented reality experience exploring how human actions shape the non-human environment across time and space. Through WebAR on their smartphones, visitors encounter various flora and fauna scaled up around them: the Amoreuxia palmatifida flower carpets the ground, and on tap reveals how its petals reflect 90% of ultraviolet wavelengths to attract native bees; Stalked Crinoids rise from the earth, returning from 400 million years ago when North America lay beneath an inland sea; and Sea Feathers drift around, transforming the air to feel liquid. Interacting with the work reveals magnetic lines that make visible the electromagnetic forces connecting all living forms, drawing humans into a field where their actions shape the environmental systems they depend on.

THE FIELD: EXTENDED FAMILY, 2026

The Field: Extended Family premiered in Arizona as an activation for The Family sculpture by Gyuri Hollosy during the Peoria Light @ Play Festival April 9-11, 2026.

The Field examines humanity's relationship to the natural world, exploring how human actions shape and interconnect with the non-human environment. By scaling up microscopic organisms and organic life forms around the family bronze sculpture, the work makes visible the biological networks that sustain existence, and our profound interdependence with nature across time.

The digital installation surrounds the bronze sculpture with enlarged renderings of organic life forms drawn from Arizona's native flora and fauna. The Amoreuxia palmatifida flower carpets the base, its large petals reflecting ninety percent of ultraviolet wavelengths, attract carpenter bees, bumble bees, and other small native bees. Stalked Crinoids, which existed in the region 400 million years ago when Arizona lay beneath an inland sea, emerge from the ground, while Sea Feathers float through the air above. Visitors encounter these enlarged organisms through their smartphones via WebAR, entering an immersive field of biological forms that shift in scale as they move.

Interacting with the experience triggers luminous magnetic lines, offering a glimpse into the invisible forces that connect all living forms across time and space. Emerging from the field around the family sculpture are new organic entities of expanded kinship with non-human life. As visitors walk through these forms, they co-inhabit and co-create a field where human actions reverberate outward, shaping the living systems we all depend upon.
